Join Space 4 Art resident artist May-ling Martinez for a one-hour sound bath at Art Produce Gallery, held an hour before the closing reception begins for Actual Size, Space 4 Art's current exhibition.
Using traditional and handmade instruments, May-ling will guide participants through an immersive sound experience designed to invite rest, reflection, and a moment to slow down.
Space is limited, and free advance registration is required. Please reserve a ticket to attend the sound bath.
After the sound bath concludes at 5 p.m., participants are welcome to stay and enjoy the Actual Size closing reception until 7:30 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public; a separate sound bath ticket is not required to attend the reception. See further below for more exhibition information.
May-ling Martinez is a Puerto Rican visual artist whose work spans mixed-media sculpture, conceptual drawings, and site-specific installations. Combining prefabricated objects with handcrafted pieces, Martinez creates art that fuses the personal and social, the everyday and the enigmatic.
Martinez holds an MFA in Sculpture from San Diego State University and a BA in Communications from Sacred Heart University in Puerto Rico. She has exhibited at venues including the California Center for the Arts, Quint ONE, CEART in Baja California, and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. Her site-specific installation work was featured in the Mirror Mirror exhibition at San Diego International Airport.
This free workshop is provided by Space 4 Art and sponsored by The Prebys Foundation. The Arts Ecosystem grant aims to bring more art funding to the San Diego Art Economy. The grant is part of the Prebys Foundation’s 2025 Emergency Arts Investment, which responds to significant challenges facing the region’s arts sector, including federal and state funding cuts, rising operational costs, and the need to preserve vital community spaces for creativity.
By enrolling in this class, you acknowledge and agree that photos and video may be taken during the event. These materials may be used by the organizers for marketing, promotional, and educational purposes.
About Actual Size
Curated by Lara Bullock, Ph.D., Actual Size brings together work by Space 4 Art resident artists Andrew Alcasid, Diana Benavídez, Nick Lesley, and May-ling Martinez, alongside former resident Aldo Cervantes.
The final exhibition in Space 4 Art's seven-exhibition series supported by the Prebys Arts Ecosystem grant, Actual Size turns our attention toward the human scale: the intimate, ordinary, and lived experiences that shape how we understand ourselves and the world around us.
