‘Instructions for Unrest’ featured in SDUT’s arts roundup
Longtime San Diego Union-Tribune arts writer David L. Coddon shone a spotlight on Space 4 Art’s new exhibition, Instructions for Unrest: Art Against Complacency, opening April 18, in his must-read weekly Arts and Culture Newsletter, which features movies, music, visual art, and books to check out.
Coddon writes:
“Back in my MFA grad schools days I was taught, as a jumping-off point to writing about activism and social unrest, about so-called crisis art. It’s expressed today in a wide variety of mediums, from painting to graphic novels.
“When art is utilized to call to attention or to sound warnings, you have “Instructions for Unrest: Art Against Complacency.” That’s the title of a Space 4 Art exhibition opening Saturday at Art Produce Gallery in North Park.
Featuring the work of more than two dozen artists, “Instructions” was curated by Alessandra Moctezuma, an artist herself who is a professor and gallery director at San Diego Mesa College. An opening reception on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. will kick off the exhibition, which runs through May 14. For more, visit sdspace4art.org.”
