From Protest to Gallery Walls: ‘Instructions for Unrest’ in the Press
What does it mean to create— and to speak out —during a time of deep uncertainty?
In Lisa Deaderick’s San Diego Union-Tribune feature, Instructions for Unrest: Art Against Complacency is explored as both an exhibition and a call to action. Curator Alessandra Moctezuma shares how the show emerged from a desire to respond to ongoing attacks on communities, rights, and historical narratives, while artist and Space 4 Art Executive Director Jennifer de Poyen reflects on the importance of choosing expression over silence.
Together, their perspectives highlight a long tradition of protest art— while grounding it firmly in the present moment. To read more about the artists, ideas, and urgency behind the exhibition, read the full interview below.
