Personal Altars as Portals with Soultry Sisters

  • Abrazos Art Studio 631 30th St. San Diego, CA, 92102 United States (map)

In this interactive workshop, we explore altar-making as a tool for Radical Re-Imagining. Participants will create mini altars or personal ritual tins— intimate portals to connection, healing, and transformation that you can return to in your daily life. Through creative expression, crafting, and storytelling, we’ll tap into collective memory as a source of personal power and a practice of liberation.

Together, we’ll reflect on how everyday rituals can build ecosystems of care, creating small, intentional portals that support sustainable change over time. You’ll leave with a handcrafted altar, new ritual practices, and a deeper sense of connection to yourself and community.

Soultry Sisters Arts + Wellness Collective is a community-rooted organization co-founded in 2019 by sisters Toni Lynn and Alyssa “Ajay” Junious. They center and uplift queer, BIPOC women and gender-expansive communities by creating accessible, culturally affirming spaces for creative expression, soulcare, sustainability, and collective healing. Rooted in North County San Diego, their work bridges arts, wellness, and community care to support vibrant, creative living and strengthen the local creative ecosystem.

Soultry Sisters also host the annual Summer SOULstice Arts + Wellness Festival, inviting artists, wellness practitioners, and community to celebrate, learn, and heal together. Learn more at www.soultrysisters.com.

This free workshop is provided by Space 4 Art and sponsored by The Prebys Foundation. The Arts Ecosystem grant aims to bring more art funding to the San Diego Art Economy. The grant is part of the Prebys Foundation’s 2025 Emergency Arts Investment, which responds to significant challenges facing the region’s arts sector, including federal and state funding cuts, rising operational costs, and the need to preserve vital community spaces for creativity.
