Spring 2023 Art Show

In collaboration with Art Produce Gallery, Space 4 Art is presenting its first art exhibition since the pandemic shutdown! The Possibility of Something Happening is funded by a generous Community Projects, Programs & Services award from the city of San Diego. Curated by San Diego-based Karla Centeno, the show will be on view at Art Produce Gallery, 3139 University Ave., 92104, from March 3-April 15.

The gallery at Art Produce slowly fills with pieces for the show.

The Possibility of Something Happening explores the phenomenological nature of chance across art practices and human encounters. All 14 participating artists are past or present S4A tenants or closely associated artists who have activated and experienced the possibilities within this expansive Space.

Artists include Amy Cimini, Judith Hamann, Nick Lesley, Bob Leathers, Michelle Lou, May-ling Martinez, Joshua Moreno, Lorena Mostajo, Jonathan Piper, Scott Polach, Ash Smith, Jacob Sundstrom, Ariana Warren, and Chris Warren.

S4A Executive Director Jennifer de Poyen, curator Karla Centeno, and S4A musician Nick Lesley begin installing pieces.

“We are delighted to partner with Art Produce and Karla Centeno to offer a view into the range and depth of Space 4 Art’s artists, their divergent practices, and the possibilities that erupt when creative people are able to work together in an affordable, collaborative Space,” said Space 4 Art Executive Director Jennifer de Poyen. “We hope this is the first of many projects we pursue together.”

Curator Centeno said, "One of the best art experiences I had in San Diego was at an immersive, site-specific artwork in an artist's living room in Space 4 Art. This experience showed me that magic is possible when artists have the space to be wildly creative. I am honored to work with Space 4 Art and Art Produce, two organizations that live up to their mission of caring for artists and providing space for art."

Lynn Susholtz, Executive Director of Art Produce, consults with S4A artist May-ling Martinez, as curator Karla Centeno looks on.

Special events during the show’s run will include a music performance on Monday, March 13 and a closing reception on Saturday, April 15. Please click below for information about those events and for gallery hours.
