Meet resident artist Bryttney-Mischele Salvant

Surreal Expressionist | Painter | Poet | Educator

We’re excited to welcome Bryttney-Mischele Salvant (she/they) to Space 4 Art! A surreal expressionist working in oil, acrylic, and poetry/writing, Bryttney-Mischele uses their practice to explore and showcase Black Excellence through the lens of their own life experiences. Her work is a direct reflection of her identity—Queer, Black, and feminist—and aims to represent her truths without compromise.

In May 2020, Bryttney-Mischele founded Poetic Artistry, a creative practice committed to reimagining modern fine art while confronting cultural complexities and social injustices. Rooted in the belief that representation matters, her work rejects the reduction of Black culture to trauma or oversimplified narratives. Through Poetic Artistry, she creates space for visibility, truth-telling, and community empowerment.

In addition to her studio practice, Bryttney-Mischele is an art instructor and freelance artist. They partner with several local organizations to bring art and education directly into the community, including BIPOC Support Foundation, SAY San Diego, ARC of San Diego, Bonita Museum & Cultural Center, and Escondido Arts Partnership. Her classes center on accessibility, creativity, and cultural engagement, continuing the same themes present in her own artwork.

Bryttney-Mischele’s creative process is also their personal outlet. Painting, above all, is how she processes and communicates when words are not enough. It’s also one of her favorite ways to recharge, along with nature walks and spending time with friends.

“When I feel at a loss of words, painting is how I communicate with the world around me.”

Now at Space 4 Art, Bryttney-Mischele looks forward to creating in community with other artists, continuing her mission through connection and shared space.
