FROM THE EXHIBITION:

The IAM@NSAD thesis cluster’s collaborative work emerges from design as research - as opposed to research as design - toward the architectural actualization of contemporary socio-cultural demands from our particular technology, which manifests itself as architecture.  We are not interested in what architecture is, but what it can be.   Architecture is constructed  upon the convergent relationship of matter and information. The codification of utility and beauty serve as an act of relating form to function (or function to form). We focus on the possibilities of these as the principles of innovation and experimentation. These basic functions construct our FrameWork as a departure from a fixed methodology. Complexity/adaptation and variation/differentiation within heterogeneous patterns/assemblies provide a basis for morphogenesis as well as the articulation of functional capacities at an increased resolution. Through the use of computation - either digital or analog/material - and simulation, these design agents become the communicators of our agendas to depart from the modernist ideals of standardization/homogeneity and repetition/specialization/segregation.
