Rooted in the traditions of jazz, soul, and the avant garde, pianist Erik Deutsch's music always brings joy to his listeners.  His new recording Demonio Teclado has been descibed as "psychedelic soul jazz," uniquely channeling the sounds of Ramsey Lewis, Pink Floyd, Ike Turner, and Stevie Wonder within his distinct original compositions.  Expect an evening of introspective, high energy jazz exploration rooted deep in the grooves of master drummer Tony Mason.  Jon Gray (Deutsch's longest collaborator), fronts the band with his powerful trumpet and voice while NYC bassist Jeff Hill holds down the low end.  With Deutsch's intense touring schedule (almost 200 days on the road in 2012), the band is truly excited to play their first show in San Diego!

"Smarter and more accomplished than standard jam-band fare, Demonio Teclado nonetheless has that sort of crossover appeal."

Bill Mikowski, Jazz Times

Brooklyn pianist Erik Deutsch has recently worked with Norah Jones, Ben Allison, Rosanne Cash, Steven Bernstein, Ellery Eskelin, Theo Bleckman, Erin McKeown, and Trevor Dunn.  After three years in the Charlie Hunter Trio (recording Mistico and Baboon Strength), Erik is currently recording and touring with Shooter Jennings and the Triple Crown, and Citizen Cope.  Longtime collaborators include the drummer Allison Miller, trumpeter Ron Miles, pianist Art Lande, and gypsy rockers Devothcka.  As a leader, his releases include Fingerprint, Hush Money, and the 2012 release Demonio Teclado.

NYC Bassist and producer Jeff Hill got his start in Chicago playing with jazz greats Von Freeman and Curtis Fuller.  In 1996 Jeff moved to NYC and began touring and recording with acclaimed singer songwriter Rufus Wainwright (a relationship which has lasted more than a decade).   He has also performed or recorded with Joan Baez, Brazilian Girls, Linda Thompson, Trey Anastasio, Shooter Jennings, Rich Robinson, Bette Midler, Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Robert Randolph, Martha Wainwright, Jim Campilongo, Shannon McNally, Marshall Crenshaw, Paula Cole, Harper Simon, Julianna Hatfield, and the Scissor Sisters, among others.

Drummer Tony Mason grew up in Southern Pines, North Carolina and started playing percussion at age seven. After studying at East Carolina University, Tony moved to NYC in 1986 to finish his education at The Manhattan School Of Music. He has toured and/or recorded with Norah Jones, Charlie Hunter, Natalie Cole, Joan Osborne, Paula Cole, Bo Diddley, Shooter Jennings, Cyril Neville, Bernie Worrell, Martha Wainwright, Leo Nocentelli, Jim Campilongo, and is currently working with guitarist John Scofield.

Trumpeter/vocalist Jon Gray currently resides in Ft. Collins, Colorado where he teaches at Colorado State University.  He and Deutsch have been performing together since 1995 when they met as freshman at the University of Colorado Boulder and formed the fusion band Fat Mama. Since then Jon has performed with James Blood Ullmer, Ron Miles, Art Lande, Soulive, Devotchka, and Charlie Hunter.
