UBUAn Anarchic Play with Music and Violence

August 10, 11, 12 8pm General: $15, $12 students. Bring something to throw.

The San Diego Guild of Puppetry joins forces with the Max Fischer Players to present a magical mayhem filled production of the classic French play, UBU ROI. Written by Alfred Jarry at the age of fourteen to mock a hated teacher, this absurdist gem follows the antihero Pa Ubu on his Shakespearian quest to kill the King of Poland and all his heirs. The show was so ahead of its time that it caused riots on its opening night in Paris! Our production pays tribute to Jarry's desire to write for a puppet theater as we blend live actors, puppets, and animation in a quest to outrage and entertain you, the modern audience. You won't want to miss this night of attacking animals, ships at sea, intricate battle sequences, and so much more. Please remember to bring a sense of humor and some items to throw at the actors. (Yes, we are serious.)
